❚❙❘❚❙❘ MERZBOW IN TAIPEI ❚❙❘❚❙❘
Kandala Records and White Fungus present for the first-time-ever Merzbow live in Taipei. Widely credited as the founder of Noise, the Merzbow project was begun by Masimi Akita in Tokyo in the early 1980s. Over the last 30 years Merzbow has put out hundreds of releases and collaborated with artists including Genisis P Orridge, Sonic Youth, Pan Sonic, Melvins, Sun O))))), John Weise, Keiji Haino, Richard Pinhas and Boris. He began the first ever Noise label Lowest Music and Art in 1982. Merzbow has toured the world extensively and has become the biggest name internationally in Noise. Relentlessly moving forward musically Merzbow has continued to defy expectations and upset Noise purists by exploring and deconstructing genres including techno, dub and even indie rock. Akita is also known for his animal rights activism and as a published author who has written books on extreme culture and articles on Japanese bondage. In his seminal book Noise/Music Paul Hegarty hails Merzbow as having reached the apex of Noise’s potential as an art form. Sasha Frere-Jones writes in The New Yorker, “Though the work is largely atonal and non-harmonic, it is bursting with timbre and texture and vibrancy”
